What's it all about?
Passion Play History: The Oberammergau Passion Play dates back to 1633 when, during the Thirty Years’ War and after much suffering caused by the plague, the residents of the village of Oberammergau in Bavarian Germany vowed to re-enact the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ every ten years if they were spared.
The Passion Play 2010: In 2010, the play will be performed for the 41st time, featuring over 2000 performers, musicians and designers - all residents of the village of Oberammergau itself. Over a period of 102 days, the Passion Play will be performed on the open-air stage of the Passion Play Theatre and will begin in the afternoon and resume in the evening following a relaxing 3-hour dinner. Performances begin at 2.30pm and a hot lunch or buffet will be served beforehand.
Oberammergau - A Traditional Bavarian Village: Nestling in the foothills of the Bavarian Alps, this tranquil village is well-known historically for its community of skilled woodcarvers, and is still home to some 100 craftsmen today.
